Slug Magazine

March is such an incredible month for Kuya! I was given the opportunity to be featured in Slug Magazine for their March issue. This was such an amazing experience to be able to share more about my passion for fashion and also for humanitarian work. Holding that magazine in my hands and seeing myself on a full page spread was an incredible and unforgettable experience!

In February, I was able to do a photoshoot with Rachel Molenda up in Salt Lake City. I was a little nervous because I'm never really in front of the camera. So it was interesting for me to step outside of my comfort zone to get photographed. Slug requested that I try to wear something that I made. At that point, I had absolutely nothing! So I had to whip something together.

The white cardigan was originally a huge over-sized dress. I purchased it that day and then went to work. Originally, it was a huge oversized button up dress with a lace collar. So I opened up the dress, took out the buttons and the collar. I wanted it to be a little more flowy and breezy and so I opened up the sides of the cardigan.

The blush pink top was also an oversized dress when I purchased it from Savers. I loved the material and the pockets, and so I just just chopped the bottom half off and sewed it shut. It was a super easy alteration, and it turned out great!

I personally loved how the outfit turned out and I was so glad that I was able to make this fashion combo in time for the photoshoot for Slug. Overall, the photoshoot was amazing. I was able to get some great photos for the magazine feature.

After the shoot, I met up with Zaina Abujebarah at a local coffee shop for the interview. She was a total crack up and we got along so well. I was super anxious about the questions that she would ask and how I would respond. Thank goodness we instantly clicked. I was able to open up have a normal conversation with her. The article was beautifully written, and I couldn't be happier about it!

This was the first time, and hopefully not the last, that I was able to be featured in a magazine! I absolutely love Slug Magazine and how they help promote the arts. This was an amazing opportunity and I am so thankful that I get to share Kuya with all of you! If you'd like to read the article, go to http://www.slugmag.com/art-fashion/project-kuya/!

Later this month, after Utah Fashion Week, Slug will be hosting their very own Fashion Show! It is their 28th Anniversary Party and it's going to be so much fun! They have 28 designers that will be creating looks to showcase Slug throughout the years. I was asked to create a look for the year 2001! There are so many creative designers that will be participating in this show as well. It will be up in SLC at The Depot. It's an all ages event and tickets are only $5! So if you'd like to come see some amazing fashion and if you'd like to party with Slug, then this is an event that you don't want to miss out on! Tickets are available at https://www.24tix.com/event/1517160374/slug-magazine%27s-28th-anniversary-party! Hope to see you guys at the event!
